Burning Music CDs Using Windows Media Player (Version 11)

Create (Burn) your own music CD from multiple CDs you already Own First you will need to “rip” (copy) the songs from the CDs into Windows Media Player

  • 1. Open windows media player
  • 2. Insert the first Music CD into your CD Rom drive
  • 3. Click on rip at the top
  • 4. Uncheck any songs from the CD you do not wish to copy to Windows Media Player
  • 5. Click on start rip on the lower right
  • 6. You will see a bar showing the process of each song being ripped. Wait for the music to rip to your library
  • 7. If you have other CDs that you wish to rip, take out the previous CD and insert the next CD; repeat steps 4-6 until all your music has been copied to your Window Media Player Library.
  • 8. Click on Library at the top then under library on the left click on songs to view all the songs that have been ripped to your library. (This is where all your songs will be.)
  • •9.Click on Burn at the top

  • 10. Click on the first song you wish to burn to the CD, press and hold down the ctrl key on your keyboard. (The Ctrl key allows you to select more than one song at the same time.) Then use the ctrl key to select by clicking once on all the songs you wish to burn to your new CD – once all are selected, let up off the ctrl key
  • 11. Left-mouse-click once on any one of the selected songs; while still holding down the left mouse button, drag it to the burn list on the right, then let up off the left mouse button.
  • 12. Insert a Blank CD-R into the CD Rom Drive (You can use music CD-Rs or just regular Data CD-Rs…some say the music CD-Rs put out higher sound quality. I haven’t noticed much of difference between the two myself.)
  • 13. When ready to burn, click on start burn button

Note: You can only burn so many MBs (never quite the full 700MB onto a CD.) Windows will burn them to multiple CDs if they will not fit on one CD. insert another writable CD when prompted (click start burn) to burn the rest of your list to more than on CD. To remove a song from your burn list

  • a. right-mouse-click once on the song in the burn list
  • b. left-mouse-click on “remove from list” (this won’t remove the songs from your library)
  • 14. Wait for the songs to burn to the CD
  • 15. The CD Will eject when complete (If burning to multiple CDs Windows Media Player will prompt you to insert another CD)
  • 16. Try out your new CD in your Stereo
  • 17. Yeah ! You did it ! 🙂

To create a new playlist, great for playing songs in the order you choose (like a jukebox or for separating your favorite types of music for dancing, exercise or relaxation.)

  • 1. Click on “create playlist on the upper left” – type a name for your playlist
  • 2. Press the enter key on your keyboard or left-mouse click once off to the side on a blank spot to keep the new playlist name
  • 3. Click on songs under library on the left side to view your songs again.

(Note: if your playlist isn’t showing on the right, and says something like untitled playlist, click on the playlist like Wade’s Music on the upper left, (*see fig. 1) click on edit in list pane (See Fig. 2.) at the bottom right – then click on songs again on the left) Figure 1. Figure 2

  • 5. Drag your songs from the library on the left to your playlist on the right – click and drag songs to arrange and sort to any order

(NOTE: if you still don’t see your songs or any to drag…click on songs under library on the left side and you will then see the songs.)

  • 6. Be sure to save your playlist by clicking on “save Playlist” button

To play your saved playlist (like your own JukeBox)

  1. Open windows media player
  2. Make sure library at the top is selected
  3. Click on the playlist on the left you wish to play
  4. Double-Click on a song to start playing
  5. Then windows media player will start playing your playlist

To burn your saved playlist to a CD

  • 1. Click on burn at the top
  • 2. Then click on the playlist name on the left (like Wade’s Music)
  • 3. While still holding down the left mouse button, drag and drop your playlist to the CD burn list on the right
  • 4. When ready to burn, click on start burn button
